New Release CDs - Monday June 2nd

As I write the skies have gone black and it is as humid as hell. Another thunder storm on the way I think! So what better way to pass the afternoon than listen to a new album by the Modfather himself, Mr Paul Weller!

Paul_weller_22_dreamsPaul Weller - 22 Dreams
This is the ninth studio album from the former front man of two of Britain's most influential bands, The Jam and The Style Council.
The album was recorded at Wellers own Black Barn studio and was also co-produced by the man himself. Drawing from his three decades of musical output the album is a mixture of classic British Indie Rock in many of it's various styles, from the anthemic rock sing along of All I Wanna Do (Is Be With You) through the funkiness of Have You Made Up Your Mind and on to the ballad like Empty Ring, and the piano and voice of Invisible every track is different yet keyed around Wellers distinctive style and voice.
22 Dreams consists of 21 tracks, some of which are collaborations. The first double A-side single Echoes Around The Sun featured Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer from Oasis there are also guest appearances from Ocean Colour Scene's Steve Cradock and Blur guitarist Graham Coxon as well as former Stone Roses start Aziz Ibrahim. Echoes Around The Sun is seen here courtesy of YouTube;

    Zutons_you_can_do_anythingThe Zutons - You Can Do Anything
    This is the third studio album from the band, coming just over two years after Tired Of Hanging Around the album that paid off their mortgages when a certain Ms Amy Winehouse covered their song Valerie! Nice, very nice!
    The ska'd up rhythms are as prevalent as ever, the retro riffs and the sax are still in there, the poptastic chorus are sung with gusto, but as was the case previously there is some seriously jacked off lyrics going on, pick them up on What's Your Problem, an ode to violence, Family Of Leeches about our modern day scrounging society and Freak, a tale about Rent Boys, not so happy-go-lucky pop tune as you first thought eh?
    This time perhaps they will not spawn a Valerie, however first single Always Right Behind You video on YouTube) is as good a pop song as you can get, with it's fab slide guitar work, even if it is about keeping your eye on those friends of yours that would slag you off behind your back!
